Our STory
Pumps of Houston was founded by Elmer Cook, formerly Regional Manager for F.E. Myers, in 1960 to supply pumping equipment to the water well industry. From the beginning, Mr. Cook stressed great customer service as the foundation for the business.
As a result, we have grown steadily throughout the years to become the premier pump company in Texas. The business has continuously evolved to provide additional products and services to the commercial, industrial and municipal markets. A complete line of large waste water pumps was added in 1982 as well as a UL listed control panel shop in 1984.
Our in-house Control Division has the capability to design and build to order pump and motor control systems tailored to our customers’ needs. At about the same time, we added assembly operations for both submersible turbines and booster pump systems. This allows us to build and ship submersible turbine pumps of up to 1200 GPM on a same day basis.
Our Growth Story
We are proud to be a third-generation company that celebrated our 65th anniversary in 2020. Through it all, we have never wavered from our commitment to provide customers with Legendary Service.
Here is a glimpse into how we have expanded our offerings and capabilities over the years: In 1982, we added a complete line of large municipal wastewater pumps, including centrifugal pumps, progressive cavities, and waste tank and displacement solutions.
In the same year, we also incorporated our UL-listed control panel shop, which has the capability to design and build-to-order pumps and motor control systems, tailored to the needs of our customers.
At about the same time, we added assembly operations for both submersible turbines and booster pump systems, allowing us to build and ship submersible turbine pumps of up to 1200 GPM on a same day basis.
Pumps of Houston Today
What started as a one-man operation supplying the Texas water well industry has grown into the state’s premier pump company — with six locations, a 33,000 square foot Houston headquarters, and a team of specialists covering everything from submersible turbines to custom control panels.
Through every expansion, the Cook family’s founding principle has remained unchanged: Legendary Service isn’t a tagline, it’s a standard we hold ourselves to every day.
We now have operations in the Austin, Tyler and San Antonio markets, and in January of 2011, we moved into a new custom built facility in Houston that expanded our service and repair capabilities in addition to enhancing our pump testing services.
We are proud to be a third generation company celebrating our 65th anniversary in 2020. Through it all, we have never wavered from our commitment to provide our customers with Legendary Service.
From 1960 to Today
Our new facility opened in January of 2011 and consists of 33,000 square feet of office, warehouse, fabrication and repair operations on five acres. It is highlighted by a new submersible pump test lab that is capable of certified pump testing to 5,000 GPM, 200 HP and certified motor testing to 500 HP.
